Start with the basics

Nails respond slowly because visible improvement depends partly on new growth. Protect them from repeated trauma and harsh exposure, moisturize the nail and surrounding skin, and avoid aggressive trimming or picking.

Where products fit

Topical oils, creams and serums can be useful for conditioning and moisture. Evaluate them by formula, tolerability and realistic cosmetic purpose—not by dramatic before-and-after promises.

Know the boundary

Persistent, painful or unexplained nail changes can have causes that cosmetic care cannot determine. When in doubt, a qualified clinician or dermatologist is a better next step than adding another product.
